"'And in vain they worship Me, Teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.’"

Reflection: Jesus was approached from the Pharisees for violating the "tradition" of the Jewish leadership known as the Pharisees. In so doing, He was accussed of violating their standard, when Jesus called them to consider they were breaking God's standard.

Application: Do you see around you things which you cannot explain or that appear to sound like good ideas, but in essence have no particular Biblical basis? Be wary when the traditions of men take precedence over the Word of God. Look to the Bible as your source and guidebook for standards.

The New King James Version. 1982 (Mt 15:9). Nashville: Thomas Nelson.

."..and indeed a greater than Solomon is here."

Reflection:  While a great many of the Proverbs in the Bible were written by Solomon and it is said of him that there was non wiser than Solomon, Jesus said the that "a greater than Solomon was here." In referring to Himself, Jesus was declaring His identity to those who would listen. God the Son was before them.

Application: What is the source of wisdom for you right now? Are you looking to self-help books? Look to Jesus Christ as the source of wisdom. Seek to get to know Him through His words in the Bible today. Have you prayed and asked Him to give you wisdom?

The New King James Version. 1982 (Mt 12:42). Nashville: Thomas Nelson.

The works of the LORD are great, Studied by all who have pleasure in them.

Reflection: The Bible is the most important book in the world and we find within the pages the "works of the Lord" and what He has done and accomplished. When you need to know the meaning of a word, you go to a dictionary. When you need to know the works of God and to understand Him, you go to the Bible.

Application: How important would you say the Bible is in your life? Are you seeking answers in it? Are you studying it? If not, start today. If so, may you find rich treasures of pleasure within the pages. In the book of Hebrews, the Bible says of itself that it is "living and active." What other book could ever say that? None.

The New King James Version. 1982 (Ps 111:2). Nashville: Thomas Nelson.

The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, And the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.

Reflection: Solomon knew the fear of the Lord. In the book of Proverbs, you have an urging for the reader to "get wisdom" and "get understanding." Since Solomon was the wisest earthly human king other than Jesus Himself, it makes sense to seek wisdom.

Application: What is the source of truth and guidance in your life? Is it the Bible? It should be. Make it a goal to strive for reading one Proverb a day. Take note that there are a maximum of 31 days in a month. There are a total of 31 Proverbs. If you lose your place, just make note of what day in the month it is, and read the Proverb for that day of the month.

The New King James Version. 1982 (Pr 9:10). Nashville: Thomas Nelson.

“Are You dthe Coming One, or do we look for another?”

Reflection:  Even John the Baptist asked to know if Jesus was the Messiah. In the midst of personal suffering and persecution, John the Baptist had asked the question to know whether Jesus was the coming Messiah. Certainly John the Baptist's situation was very grave and difficult in prison and at a time of difficulty, he needed confirmation. Jesus said to the messenger disciples, “Go and tell John the things which you hear and see: The blind see and the lame walk; the lepers are cleansed and the deaf hear; the dead are raised up and the poor have the gospel preached to them."

Application: Are you needing a personal confirmation from Jesus in a particular area or matter in your life? Knowing the high regard of John the Baptist, we too can ask for help. Tell Him about it and ask Him to help you with confirmation, guidance, wisdom, and direction. Remember to seek answers within the Bible.

The New King James Version. 1982 (Mt 11:3). Nashville: Thomas Nelson.

Passing along the street near her corner; And he took the path to her house. Proverbs 7:8 NKJV

Reflection: This young man was passing by the street corner where a crafty harlot was located. He decided to take the path to her place. Nothing can short-circuit your spiritual life like sexual sin. Proverbs warns of the impact and so does the New Testament. It says the woman he met was dressed as a harlot and she had a subtle heart.

Application: Have you failed sexually? God can forgive you. Has he restored you? Humbly thank him. Are you being tempted? Read Proverbs 7 and also 1 Thessalonians 4.

“The harvest truly is plentiful, but the laborers are few. Therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest.”  Matthew 9:37-38 NKJV

Reflection: The were many people who Jesus saw that needed help and the Bible said that when Jesus saw the many people, he was "moved with compassion." He we stirred because of the situation that was around him when he saw the number of lost people. Scripture likens it to sheep without a shepherd.

Application: Do you see people today in your world who are like sheep without a shepherd. Ask God that he would grant hearts of compassion to reach out. Pray and ask the Lord to "send out laborers into His harvest."

The New King James Version. 1982 (Mt 9:37–38). Nashville: Thomas Nelson.

"But only speak a word, and my servant will be healed." Matthew 8:8 (NKJV)

Reflection: The man who spoke these words was an important leader who had a serously ill servant. This man had respect for Jewish culture and supported it. When it came to Jesus Christ, he knew that He was more than a man, this was the Son of God. This man knew his own unworthiness in the sight of a holy God. He knew that if Jesus would just say the word, it would be done and he didn't even have to have him come to the place where he was located. He realized Jesus Christ had the power to heal from any place at any time and only by the word of His mouth. Jesus responded that He had not found faith like this

Application: Is there someone you know who is suffering and needing healing? Ask the Savior and Divine Healer, Jesus Christ, to say the word for them to be healed.

The New King James Version. 1982 (Mt 8:8). Nashville: Thomas Nelson.
