Question: If God is good, why is there evil and suffering in the world and why does He allow it to continue?

The Bible repeatedly states in the creation account after God finished creating several things that "it was good" (NKJV) Genesis 1:4, 10, 12, 18, 21, 25. After creating man and woman, plants, and animals on the sixth day, the Bible says that the creation "was very good" (NKJV) Gen 1:31. Therefore, if creation was very good when man and animal were living on the earth, there was time when things were "very good" before sin had entered into the world.

It was not until man disobeyed God that sin corrupted the world. Perhaps a better question to ask would be, "why did man choose to commit evil when living in a perfect world?" Because of the rebellious fall of man, sin has entered into the world. God provided man freedom of choice and man chose to rebel against God.

Ever since Adam and Eve sinned in the garden, man has been born in sin and we have also chosen to sin by personal choice. We live in a fallen (sinful) world where we sin against others and others sin against us. Given this state of being, if sin were to be stopped today, it would mean a lot of people would be in a lot of trouble because God has appointed a day when He will judge the world in righteousness.

The Bible says, “The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.” (2 Peter 3:9, NKJV).

Consider how God is kindly giving people time and opportunity to repent and believe in the Gospel of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of their sins and to then go and tell others the same Good News before it is too late. God will eventually bring this all to a final close and the day of judgment is just ahead.

God has made a way for you to have a restored fellowship with Him. God has paid the ultimate sacrifice to redeem you back from your rebellious and sinful life. It is only through the blood of Jesus Christ as the perfect sacrifice for our salvation. Repent and believe in the Gospel today!
